So, I had temporarily talked myself out of continuing with my blog. I've been home about a month now and had been reading a lot of other blogs and had this heavy feeling of "wow, these other bloggers are really good at this and I kind of suck." But today a great friend of mine from the other side of the country sent me a text out of the blue asking when I would be posting again, as she was looking forward to reading my blog. So I'm back at it, feeling a little boost of confidence from that sweet friend.
So we are now settling in to these new roles in our house, with my little one and I home everyday and my 4 year old at preschool 3 days a week and home with us the others (and my husband basically never home - oh Navy life). To tell the truth, the adjustment has been rather easy. I have moments when I think I should start taking a class or that I should do something "intellectually stimulating", but overall I'm just cool with how life is going at the moment. I do think that in a few months I will start doing something intellectual, but there is nothing wrong with taking a few months to just play and relax. I found some great resources with lesson plans and activities for the kids to do, so that I can keep them busy and make sure we aren't watching TV or the iPad all day. Each week we have a letter of the week (I make it the same letter of the week that Maddie's preschool has, for consistency) and a theme of the week. Last week and this week have been "Spring". We planted a garden, we painted outside, we'll be making flowers from empty TP rolls and construction paper. I'm also loving just playing outside with them. We are lucky to live in a place with nonstop sun, because we can play outside many times a day every day. I never in a million years would have pictured myself getting such joy out of these activities but I am!! I find craft ideas and I am so excited that I can't wait to do them with the girls. I also had my most exciting purchase last week - kids scissors that cut paper but not hair or skin!!!! I instantly was thinking where were these 30 years ago when my brother gave me the most hideous haircut ever?!?!?! And why didn't my mom invent these after said haircut?? Well mom?? We could be living the easy life on our scissor fortune now... but I digress.
I will post some links in a future blog post of some of the great websites I have found with lesson plans and crafts for the kids to do. I just wanted to let the world know that I didn't give up. And maybe it was just my friend in Virginia that wondered where my blog went and no one else cared, but even if I'm just posting it for her, I love her enough that it's worth it :-)
