So, I did it. After months of thinking about it, talking about it, asking everyone under the sun for their opinions, I went ahead and I actually did it. I quit my job. You may be asking a lot of questions. Who is this person telling us this? Why is it so significant? And why did she do it? What will this blog be about?
So, who am I? I'm Becky. I'm a mom of 2 beautiful girls and the wife of a kind and wonderful man who has chosen to serve us all by serving in the US Navy. I was born and raised in Upstate NY (NOT THE CITY, NOT LONG ISLAND, NOT JUST BARELY NORTH OF THE CITY). More on all that later, this is just an intro.
Why is it so significant that I quit my job? Because I've never thought I was the Stay at Home Mom (SAHM) type of person. I was never super into kids. They scare me a bit. I spent 4 years in college getting my accounting degree and CPA license and have since spent about 12 years working in the professional world of accounting, building a knowledge base and honing my craft so that I could be the best accountant possible. I went back to work 14 weeks after baby #1 was born and worked more or less non-stop until I had baby #2. When she was 12 weeks old, we moved across the country, so I took some time off while I looked for work. Re-entered the workforce again and continued to work up until now.
Why did I do it? I quit my job because it felt like the right thing to do. My husband comes and goes quite a bit, my girls are growing like crazy and need a strong parental influence in their life. I ran (and re-ran and re-ran and re-ran) our family budget to make sure it would work. And it will. Some things will change but we aren't used to an extravagant lifestyle, so we'll be just fine.
Last but not least, what will this blog be about? Well, to start it will be a little bit of everything. Adjusting to one income, dealing with my husband being gone, what I do to keep my sanity, how I keep my kids challenged - physically, mentally, etc. Maybe some recipes. Really, a little of everything. I'm hoping to narrow my focus eventually, once I get into a groove and find my passion.
Thanks for listening! Come back soon to see what happens next :-)
